Great Gerring Garden Get Together 2019

Area Rep | Published on 5/26/2020

Area 4 members and guests enjoyed another great Gerring garden party of tea, cakes, chat and fine cars. The top quality display of Astons ranged from the 1933 Le Mans of Hugh & Lynn Williams to the latest Vanquish S Zagato Shooting Brake of our hosts. The 'green corner' of the lawn also included 2 x V8 Vantages c/o Mike & Viv Haynes and the AMR of Maria Dyer and Helen Ponting, and Paul & Nik Phelan's 'hardly green' DB9.

The star car was probably the Shooting Brake, having returned 2 days previously from a 3,000 mile tour of Europe that included an invitation from Aston Martin Design Director, Marek Reichman, and Andrea Zagato to drive the Mille Miglia! The car proudly displayed the dirt and dried insect collection that told the story of the 2019 race. The full story and some photos will appear in an AMQ soon.

Other members' cars included a DB4, a DB6, DB7 Vantage GT, V8 'Q', Vanquish S and Jaguars MkII and E-Type V12.

It was good to see Patti Simcock enjoying her first outing since a bad foot injury that's kept her indoors for the last few months!

Welcomed guests included Bob & Ginny Sackley in their TR4 and Stephen and Joyce Hall with their Lotus Elan 2+2and a number of interested neighbours were invited to view the display, including a Ferrari 458 Spyder that joined the display. All added to the collection for the RAF Benevolent Fund of £235 - an amazing result! Thank you to all who contributed.

Of course, the biggest thanks go to Paul & Jan for putting on another terrific event that everyone who attended enjoyed immensely!

Here are a few photos of the day...

The 'green corner' bracketed by the red corner and the blue corner!

With thanks to all of the cake-bakers: Jan, Gillian, Lynn, Maria, Helen and Ginny (have I missed anyone?)

The Gerring's Zagato Shooting Brake was 'fresh' back from the 2019 Mille Miglia!

Patti demonstrates how an AMOC brolly won't get in the way of cake!

How many other Zagatos out there are actually used?!
