 Area 16 Sussex Weekend Drive to West Side of France   April 26th – April 29th 2018

 

We are looking at doing the Area 16 drive tour to France next year from Thursday 26th April to the Sunday 29th April 2018 in and around the area of Marais Poitevin national park, just short of the Cognac region, never been there myself, but guess we can explore the area. The plan is to stay in the same hotel rather than moving from one to another, the hotel above has availability and attached is the pricing and menus that they can provide, ending with a private room / area for us on the Saturday night.

My thoughts for travel are:

Night ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe (Wednesday Night 25th) leaving at 11.00pm (23.00) arriving at 04.00am local time Thursday 26th, around £115 return,  approx. 4.5 hr drive to the hotel, so can take in some breakfast, coffee, lunch and views on the way, OR, you could get ferry Newhaven to Dieppe Thursday Morning at 10.00am arriving 15.00hrs (3.00pm) local time then arriving early evening at the hotel, or if you prefer to travel via another port etc, this is up to you. It has been suggested, for those who prefer to break the journey to overnight stop in Le Mans, Allan MaCcormack has recommended a hotel for this, let me know if this is a choice.  You will need to book your own ferry.

 

 While there, we would look at visiting the national park and drives to the coast or into the Cognac area, generally, I would wing this as I normally do on some of our drives, not unless someone has some knowledge of the area, open to suggestions. A tour book will not be produced and we would not provide route details, as this would suggest it was a organised convoy drive and may invalidate your insurance, I would give out the final destination and it would be your choice if you travel in any form of convoy etc.

Below is the translated proposal and costs from the hotel. Please let me know as soon as you can if you are interested in joining us for this long weekend drive to the west side of France?? So I can reserve rooms.

  • ALL VEHICLES MAY BE STATIONED IN THE INTERNAL COURSE OF THE DOMAINE WITH SAFETY.

 

PROPOSAL FOR CLASSIC DINNERS OF 26 AND 27 APRIL 2018

Sea salad with lime cream.

Smoked duck salad, dried ham with melon.

Fondant hot langoustines and reduced grout.

Skate terrine with capers and tomato coulis with basil.

Assorted pickled fish with crunchy salad .

Shrimp terrine with basil and its coulis.

A mishmash of pickled fish and crisp salad.

 

The dishes of your choice  :

Back of cod roasted with mussels and cooked in la rochelaise.

Grenadin of filet mignon with oyster mushrooms and Pineau reduction.

Back of salmon roasted on skin and its reduced juice.

Fondant of poultry with cream of mushrooms and Pineau

Tab with Bordeaux and candied shallots

Duo of meat at the financial.

Feuillantine of sea bream on leek fondue

( All hot dishes are accompanied by toppings)

 

The desserts of your choice  :

Crunchy dark chocolate.

Duo of pastries

Strawberry and its coulis.

Opera.

Strawberry shortbread pie.

Fondant meringue with raspberry.

 PROPOSAL FOR THE GASTRONOMIC DINNER OF 28 APRIL 2018

 The entries of your choice  :

 Pikeperch roll and smoked salmon marinated in dill and coriander on its crispy arlette with thyme, steamed basil tomatoes.

  • Salad of pork smoked and dried with fine herbs, shavings of foie gras with black pepper and beetroot juice vinaigrette.
  • Cream of lobster and quenelle of fresh goat cheese, chives.

 The dishes of your choice  :

 Roasted cod steak on skin, spaghetti with cuttlefish ink pitted with rosemary needles and its reduction to crustaceans.

  • Marinated duck pear with berries, fricassee of parsley potatoes and parsnips, sweet potato chips and spiced honey reduced juice.
  • Poultry tournedos, stuffed with green cabbage and studded Comté cheese emulsion with lettuce cream and roasted almonds.

The desserts of your choice  :

After Eight revisited and gratin with fresh mint

  • Gourmet macaroon with seasonal fruit, light violet cream and litchi sorbet.
  • Pear caramel mille-feuille and white chocolate ice cream
