Area 13 Rep | Published on 4/1/2022

Our March club night brought out a good display of Astons, one new member and a Ferrari that happened to be passing and noticed the cars. We were well fed with the pub running a specialty pie week with some excellent fillings as well as one or two more experimental ones. Our next club night will be April 12 at the Fox and Goose Coombe Bissett. This will be the first light evening of the year so please come and bring you Aston. As ever, parking can be a challenge but remember to ask as we can double park in many areas of the car park.

Our alternative pub night for April will be on Tuesday 26 April at The Pheasant Inn at Hungerford.  Our aim is to get members to come along and meet owners in the north of Area 13 and the south west of Area 10.  The pub is about 15 miles from Swindon, 25 miles from Basingstoke and about 20 miles from Andover.  If you live in the north of Hampshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire or just fancy a longer drive then please make the effort to come and meet your local Aston owners at this lovely country pub. Please book via the AMOC web site or email us if you would like to come.

We are beginning to see registration opening for a number of car events in our area and I urge you to book up soon as many will fill up.

  • Basingstoke Festival of Transport on May 8.
  • Area 13 Castle Combe Track Day on June 7. Now includes spectator attractions
  • Thruxton Historic on June 11-12. View historic racing from the AMOC banked section.
  • Wallop Wings and Wheels on July 2. Classic aircraft and cars displayed at the Army Flying Museum.
  • Sherborne Classic and Supercars. Area 13 has a display area at this very busy event.

Remember that April 24 is National Drive It Day in support of NSPCC Childline, and many classic and vintage car clubs are organising events, which Douglas and I will be participating in. We are therefore not planning anything in Area 13 but there are meetings in adjacent areas that you may wish to join, so look for local alternatives on social media.

On 7 March we had an enjoyable drive and dine to the Isle of Purbeck with 40 booked in for lunch.  We were lucky with the weather being sunny and dry enabling us to have clear views across Poole Harbour and Sandbanks.  Thanks for all that joined us for the day.

Many thanks to Ray Kahn for organising lunch at the Woodlands Lodge Hotel, in the New Forest on Sunday 30thJanuary for 44 members in total. We had a great selection of different models of Aston`s parked in front of the hotel. The food and service were excellent. Ray had also organised wonderful sunny weather for the day.  Ray has suggested we organise an afternoon tea back there in the summer, the grounds look fabulous so it should be another great afternoon to look forward to.

Track day plans are all going well and there are only very limited places available. Douglas has arranged for Bristol Aston to attend with demo cars to try, not on track though. There will also be a number of other attractions including Aston Installations, Emerald detailing, AMOC shop andWhipdwith car related gifts. So, it shouldbe a good day to come and spectate as well as participate. More details will follow nearer the time.
