Area 15 Rep | Published on 11/1/2021
Mark Writes:

Our September meeting was held at the Betsey Wynne where 33 members and 9 Aston Martins attended a damp, dark evening but the company and banter was excellent as always.

The Bond Day at Shuttleworth exceeded all my expectations with 302 Astons attending out of the 329 tickets sold, with the missing attendees due to the effect of Covid, Fuel availability and sadly some breakdowns. The venue looked after us very well and Marc Aylott from HQ came along to kindly assist with the parking and setting out of the Aston Display. Jo Green also came along and provided media coverage and Christine Howson came along in her own time and assisted in selling the raffle tickets with Melanie.

The raffle raised £300 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance and I must thank you for supporting it so well.

The Gyrocopters from the Rotorcraft Association provided an additional attraction with some members managing to blag a flight, with the star of the day being "Little Nellie" the Gyrocopter which starred in "You Only Live Twice". With the fantastic aircraft and vehicle collections in the hangers along with the Swiss Gardens there was plenty to do and see for everyone.

Then a few of us hardy souls stayed to watch a fascinating documentary about Wing Commander Wallace who designed a flew Little Nellie and was instrumental in developing gyrocopters, he certainly led an amazing life and had a few narrow escapes, this was then followed by the film "You Only Live Twice" on the outdoor cinema screen.

I'm planning a return visit for Area 15 possibly in the spring of 2022, with a tour of the house and some of the Gyrocopters returning to give flights to those who want them.

The other main event was the private screening of the new Bond film "No Time to Die" where 62 of us enjoyed the last outing for Daniel Craig as 007, with popcorn, sweets and a drink as part of the ticket price. If you have still not seen it, do go, as it is a good film and no spoilers are being spilt here.
