Area 4 - Tabletop Concours 2023

Andrew Fawkes (Area 4 Rep) | Published on 2/9/2023
The February 2023 meeting at the Carpenter's Arms included the annual 'Tabletop Concours' where members get to show off some of their miniature collection and hope to collect a glorious prize for winning.

Some 19 people turned up - a record for an Area 4 February meeting - and brought along a selection of models of all shapes and sizes.

Judging was made uncontentious by inviting Sarah of the Carps team to judge the winner based on any criteria she decided, no questions asked.

A tense round of detailed inspection resulted in the winner being selected by raising the winning entry high:

Much warm applause greeted the announcement that George Matthews had won with his 2017 replica Le Mans GT Pro-winning Vantage model, signed by winning driver Jonny Adam. The result was particularly warmly received as it was George and Anna's first time at an Area 4 evening meeting.

Coming a close second, apparently, was the Sticklebricks creation of Barbara King's granddaughter, Hazel😉!

L-R - DB11 (John Cheyne), Jaguar XJ220 (Martin Jaehme), DB5 Lego (Andrew Fawkes), DB5 (Gillian Fawkes), V8 Vantage Volante (Geoff Cahalin), Jaguar MkII (Liz Jaehme), Second place was Barbara King's Sticklebricks creation and foreground, TVR Speed 12 (David Birkett).

The only diorama present was Helen Ponting's WWII airfield scene showing a pilot of the 'Millionaires Squadron' with his Ulster and faithful black labrador.

There were also some lovely models in the car park outside... another unusual aspect for a February meeting.
