Area 10 April Update 2024

Area 10 April update

First I have some sad news. Area 10 Member Trevor King passed away on 26 March.  Whilst it was not unexpected it still came as a shock.  Trevor and his long-term companion Gill were regular supporters of Area 10 events and it was at our first event in 2012 that Jo and I found ourselves parked next to them in Churt and they made us very welcome.

Now, a report on what we have been up to recently despite the cool, wet weather.  We held our February meeting at The White Hart at Nettlebed.  We had an excellent turn-out including Robert Rose and Tom Frost who were recently-joined Members attending their first meeting.

Later in February, several Area 10 Members, most of whom seemed to be called Steve, test drove the DB12 in weather which challenged the car’s traction control.

I returned from overseas just in time for our March meeting at The Spade Oak in Bourne End.  I had requested the Snug for the evening and it certainly was fairly snug as we had 35 Members seated there.  This included four people attending their first meeting as they had only joined the club last year – they were Jeff & Sue Medlock and Paul & Annette Hucker, all of whom had also attended our New Year Dinner.

As I write this, we have just had an active weekend with a good turn-out of Area 10 Members for AM Reading’s Spring Service Coffee Meet where several of us also took test drives in their DB12s.  I was fortunate to enjoy an early drive in the Volante with the roof down before the late-morning hailstorm!

On the Sunday, more than 20 Area 10 Astons met at The Renegade Brewery, Yattendon for a tasty brunch.  Thanks to Rob Smith who had arranged for us to display our cars in front of the brewery building until we were deposed in the afternoon by the Civic Type-R club.  There are a good number of photos posted on our Area 10 Facebook page.

Our April meeting will also be our AGM and Annual Quiz and will be held on Thursday the 11th at The Bird in Hand, Knowl Hill. The quiz will start at 8:00pm with questions set by last year’s winners Rob & Lorraine Smith and Ian & Roseanne Affleck.  The winners of the quiz will be awarded the Ten Trophy, a model of DP215.  In the brief AGM I will summarise our Area 10 accounts and hold our elections for rep and assistant rep.  Both Liz Constance and I are happy to continue for another year, but I am inviting other candidates for the roles.  Liz focuses on the website and social media so we would welcome an assistant rep for events.

Rob Smith is arranging a drive-out which includes tours of the Whitewebbs Transport Museum and Nicholas Mee & Co Ltd.  This will take place on Thursday 18 April.  We will have a guided tour and lunch at Whitewebbs before heading for Nick Mee’s for a tour and refreshments. Please register your interest with Rob and make your payment of £21.50 per person to the Area 10 account by 31 March.  The payment covers refreshments, lunch and the guided tour.
