We left the Severn View Services under heavy rain clouds with a cold westerly wind. It did not bode well for an expedition on Welsh mountain roads. Regardless, we turned up the fast, twisty road towards Usk and, as if by magic, the clouds lifted and the sun came out. With virtually no traffic at all, and in bright sunshine, we made “very good progress” over the EVO test road (B4560) and on to Brecon. Refuelled with coffee and buns, we pushed on up the A470 through Rhayader to enjoy the B4518, Llanidloes to Machynlleth road. What a joy … no traffic at all .. go as fast as you dare (within the law of course)! By 1345 we were parked up in the sunshine on the Aberdyfi seafront. Walkers Fish and Chips were as good as ever! After a walk by the sea, two groups set off home whilst the others spent an excellent evening at the Penhelig Arms Hotel celebrating Chris Bates's birthday.
