Area 10 - July 2024 Report

At last the weather has been behaving itself and most of our recent events have been blessed with glorious sunshine!

Sothebys seemed pleased with the number of AMOC Members that turned up for their auction at Cliveden on 12 June.  There was a good turnout of Area 10 Members, but I did not spot many of them bidding, perhaps because they had spent all their spare cash on lunch!?  The auction promises to be an annual event so we can look forward to further invitations next year.

The following day, just a couple of miles away, we held our monthly meeting at The Spade Oak in Bourne End.  On this occasion the weather did not behave itself and we were unable to make use of the outside tables that had been reserved for us!

This year we again held an additional evening meeting at the Gerrards Cross Golf Club. We had nearly 20 Astons parked beside the putting green and David & Jane Cottam organised a putting competition in aid of charity.  The first prize was an Aston Martin golf ball set that was generously donated by AM Reading and was won by Rob “Tiger” Smith.  Jane Brill won the bottle of wine.  The competition raised £100 for On Course Foundation UK which provides help for service veterans.  It was an excellent evening and some of the Astons also received a complimentary carwash when the automated sprinkler system was activated – it was not universally appreciated, especially not by those with Volantes and Roadsters!

Lady Judy McAlpine, widow of Sir William had invited Area 10 to one of her special Invitation Days at the Fawley Hill Museum.  The museum includes a full-scale railway running for over a mile through the estate.  30 Members attended in 17 Astons and enjoyed train rides, the incredible museum, and a picnic overlooking the valley.  Lady McAlpine told me that she and Sir William had owned a lot of Astons over the years and the ones she misses most are the DB5s.
