37th Kitzbüheler Alpenrallye

Alexander Reichhart (DU) | Published on 7/19/2024

The 37th Kitzbüheler Alpenrallye took place from 04 to 07.06.24.

For three days we travelled along beautiful country roads and passes.
After the technical inspection on Wednesday by the organisation's experts, we were able to take part in a training course to prepare for the upcoming stages.

The Kitzbüheler Alpenrallye takes place in four classes: Sport Plus, Sport, Classic and Youngtimer & Exotic Cars. We ourselves took part in the strictest class 'Sport Plus'. Here, the participants have to manage without digital timepieces and complete the special stages with purely analogue timepieces such as the Tripmaster in accordance with the regulations of the hourglass classification.

The 600km route started on Thursday at the car park of the famous Hahnenkamm. The first stage on Thursday was a regularity test over the St. Johann airfield. This gave the drivers a real racing feeling.

On Friday, we travelled from Jochberg to the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. At 3,798 metres, it is the highest mountain in Austria. We were able to enjoy a breathtaking panorama for hours along the pass roads with metre-high walls of snow. One of the special stages took place on the military grounds of the Austrian biathlon centre in Hochfilzen. Here we were able to put our shooting skills to the test.

On Saturday, we travelled through the Salzburger Land region. In Berchtesgaden we made a short stop at the Porsche Museum. After seemingly endless special stages, we finally reached the finish line in the cordoned-off centre of Kitzbühel for the Concours d'Elegance. There, the beautiful automotive rarities were greeted by hundreds of applauding spectators.

The award ceremony then took place. In addition to the prizes for the performance classes, the "Concours de Technique" prize was also awarded. We were quite surprised when our Aston Martin DB6/3112/R from 1967 was announced as the winner. The jury assesses the original condition or restoration, the general condition and the originality of the vehicle for this award. Our DB6 has been lovingly restored over the years by a renowned English restoration company and its originality has taken centre stage. Today, it shines again in autumn gold like it left the factory in Newport Pagnell in 1967. The entire interior has remained almost completely unchanged and is fortunately in excellent condition. In recent years, we have carried out a number of further improvements. Always in the spirit of originality.
