Area 22 August Calendar

The days are getting imperceptibly shorter, about 3 minutes a day I am told. The same applies to the Area 22 Calendar as the year progresses. Not to despair, there are still some interesting events to come.

The August meeting is at the Frogmill this coming Thursday. We shall be discussing the future of Area 22 and for those not present I shall send out a precis after the meeting. Next Saturday is our visit to Avro Vulcan XM655 at Wellesbourne. We have the permitted maximum of 12 cars so it should be a good event. Those going should have received the details.

On Tuesday 20 August we shall Drive for Rory. Rory and others like him, need our help. I have explained the story of Rory on the website under Area 22 Drives for Rory - Aston Martin Owners Club (amoc.org) but unashamedly repeat it here.

Rory had a stroke at the age of 4. Since leaving hospital he no longer receives daily physio sessions vital for his recovery and ongoing rehabilitation. The NHS is unable to provide the regular support he needs but CALM can.

CALM, the charity for Children Achieving Lifelong Movement, is driven by Andrea Richell, an Area 22 member. This is a very small local charity based in Bourton on the Water. Through fully funded, one to one physical movement therapy sessions, CALM helps local children with lifelong movement disorders, to keep moving and achieve their full potential. It is essential for Rory’s future mobility and wellbeing that he keeps moving which is why CALM is such an important part of Rory’s week. It helps him build his strength, encourage his independence and allows him the freedom to do the things that other children take for granted. It costs £300 a month to provide Rory with this kind of life changing training.

On 20 August we will meet at the AV8 Café, Cotswold Airport at 1100, planning to leave at 1215. We will drive a circuitous country route to arrive at the Classic Motor Hub, Ablington at approximately 1500. After browsing the showroom, we will drive the short distance to Northleach where we will be flagged into the school playground by the children of CALM. They will be very excited to see us and may wish to closely inspect our cars! It is only a very short walk to the Ox House in the Market Place where we shall enjoy an afternoon tea party with the children.

The cost per car will be £100, £80 of which will go directly to the work of CALM.  Afternoon tea and a welcome drink are included. The space available in Northleach limits us to 25 cars so if you want to be part of this important event and support the children of CALM, please book your place now at area22@amoc.org.

Payment of £100 should be made through the CALM Just Giving link. Please include your surname and “AMOC” as a reference.  https://lifelongmovement.org/donate

To date we have 13 cars booked so we need your further support for this event to help set Rory and other young people on the road to self-reliance. .

The September meeting will be at the Royal Oak, Leighterton and shortly after which the Area 22 Expedition to Picardy and the Champagne Region sets off. Those going have been briefed and are “hot to trot”.

Other events of interest?

I would highlight the Aston Martin Heritage Festival on 31 AugustAston Martin Heritage Festival | AMHT for tickets.

I received the following from Tony Sheridan…He is hosting an Open Day at 444 Retreat (www.444retreat.co.uk) on Saturday 7 September. Set in the heart of the Worcestershire countryside, it is a great run out. Join him for Breakfast Baps and Coffee, Champagne for the ladies accompanied by live entertainment in the form of a Rockabilly Trio. Please let Tony know if you can make it info@444retreat.co.uk.

Details of all events are on the website under Area 22 - Gloucestershire - Aston Martin Owners Club (amoc.org). If you want to come along to any of the events let me know at area22@amoc.org. Chris and I hope to see you at as many events as you can manage.
