The AMOC-Canada West 2024 Victoria Weekend was another smashing success. The perfect weather was welcomed as 30 Aston Martins were assembled on the beautiful grounds of the Stonebridge Equestrian Centre in North Saanich. New owners of the Stonebridge property, Eric Friedland and Laura Sowden, graciously allowed this tradition to continue, as the Section had previously held events at Stonebridge under the former ownership of Tom Mullaly. Eric not only joined AMOC earlier this year, but he recently became an Aston owner as well. Long time Section member, Tom Mullaly, continued to support the event by sponsoring the wonderful catered lunch for all the members and guests in attendance.
Numerous sponsors donated prizes that were given away. World-renowned concours judge, Nigel Matthews, loaned his skills to the event and awarded prizes for Astons in various categories. Colin Percy also gave an interesting presentation about his acquisition and long restoration of his 1939 Aston Martin 15/98, one of only 50 ever made.
The event attracted quite a few Astons from the mainland who took the 2-hour ferry ride over to Vancouver Island. There were attendees from Washington State as well as the Furthest Distance Driven winner, Chris Roberts, who drove almost 2,000 kilometers each way from Edmonton in his V8 Vantage Roadster to attend the event.
The following day, a number of the same Astons showed up for the annual Oak Bay Classic Car Festival. Each year at this event, the Astons are grouped in front of the Carlton House retirement home, owned by one of our fellow Aston owners, Steve Clark, who again generously provided lunch for all of the Aston attendees this year. Special thanks to all our sponsors and to Asst. Rep. Wyman Lee for fantastic organization again.
