Area 22 - National Memorial Arboretum

Area 22 Rep | Published on 2/24/2023

On 22 February 20 members of Area 22 arrived on time in the car park at the NMA. None of us had been before but it soon became clear what a well organised establishment this is.. the crowds being absorbed into the buildings and grounds. In a private dining room we enjoyed “pie and mash” before being addressed by Keith, a senior volunteer at NMA. For almost 90 minutes there was silence in the room as he extolled about many of the memorials and the symbolism behind them. He brought his talk to life through personal stories and anecdotes which were enthralling. As the sun came out we boarded the Land Train for a 40 minute tour of the memorials supported by an excellent commentary.  I believe we all left rather over awed by the scale of the NMA and the thought and care which has gone into each and every one of the memorials. A good day out!
