Our May meeting was held via Zoom and Rob Blakemore from Ecurie Bertelli kindly gave us a great talk about what they do there, looking after the Aston Martin pre-war cars. He explained how they balance restoration and conservation of these fantastic vehicles depending on the owner’s requirements and history/condition of the car. They are now having to re-manufacture several parts, as the stock of available parts has now dried up and how their new CNC machine do this very accurately. He also discussed how they support various owners at race meetings and provide a mobile workshop. Later this year we are planning an Area 15 visit to their facility which I can highly recommend, details to follow.
The Covid rules were extended and our first "proper" monthly meeting in June was cancelled as a result.
July's meeting is on Thursday 29th at Sywell Aerodrome, Northamptonshire, NN6 0BN. Enter via the "Museum" entrance and park in the large car park opposite the museum.
For new members or those who haven’t attended our monthly meetings the format is simple. Some retired members arrive from about 17:30hrs but the majority of members arrive between 18:30hrs and 20:00hrs, most people have something to eat and you order and pay individually as you arrive and the food is served on a first come, first served basis.
Some of our members have been enjoying non AMOC meetings recently, notably the Super Car Fest - The Runway, at Sywell, where you could book a slot to drive your car down the runway. Brian Dent posted a video on our Area Facebook page of him reaching 140mph with his car sounding glorious.
Our first Area 15 Drive out for 2021 is to Compton Verney is on Sunday July 4th, now fully booked, as restricted to 30 attendees due to Covid regulations
