Area 22 Winter Gathering

Winter Gathering
12 December 2024

It was cold and wet outside, but in the bar at the Frogmill Inn it was all kicking off.  Ladies, resplendent in their cocktail dresses (is that an old-fashioned term), the gentlemen in dinner jackets milling at the bar. Winter Gathering 2024 was getting under way. At 1900 hours prompt the crocodile of thirty-two Area 22 members made their way up the stairs to The Snug to be greeted by the brightly lit Christmas tree, candles, champagne glasses and four tables beautifully decorated with presents for the ladies. It was game on!

We enjoyed the Prosecco until we sat down for an excellent three course Christmas meal. Promptly served by the Frogmill staff we worked our way through the courses. The turkey was extremely tasty, the fish looked excellent. Accompanied by appropriate music in the background, two hours swiftly passed with many bottles of red and white being opened.

As the level of conversation reached a crescendo, it was time for the disco to commence. The sounds of Abba swiftly drew the ladies to the dance floor eventually followed by, in some cases, less than enthusiastic partners. As with all discos it gained momentum until suddenly, it was midnight.

As we drifted away, collecting all the bits and pieces off the tables to be used next year, we all agreed it had been a splendid occasion. The Snug had provided the perfect ambiance, the meal was thoroughly enjoyed, the disco just loud enough and of course we had all enjoyed each other’s company as we always do in the Area 22 “family”.

I should like to thank Sandra for the work she put in preparing the tables and buying the presents (under budget), the Frogmill staff who did a great job and Fred, the Events Manager, who brought it all together. See you in 2025, same time, same place.
