t looks like a busy few weeks ahead as the sun rises higher and the sun cream comes out for those with a volante. The Drive It Day event always seems to herald the start of the season, and it certainly did this year as 31 members and friends enjoyed a chase over the Welsh Hills.
Before going into the Calendar, I should just like to mention “menu choices” associated with the monthly meetings. We recognise that the pub menus are not always the easiest to decipher and recently this has resulted in disappointment. Could I ask that when you send “menu choices” to Mike you state exactly what you want. And finally, could I ask that when you leave the pub that you pay for everything you have ordered including the “sides”. I know this sounds silly, but it has caused problems recently. Thank you!
So, to more exciting things…what is coming over the horizon?
We get stuck straight in with lunch at the Horse and Groom on Saturday 3 May. Unfortunately, Mike had to change the venue at a late stage as he could not confirm the arrangements with the Ragged Cot in a timely manner. Saturday 17 May we visit Neil and Nikki at Cotswold Prestige Cars to check out what he has in his garage and then move on to lunch at The Colesbourne Inn.
Moving on and the June meeting will be at the Frogmill on Thursday 5 June, closely followed by our visit to the Middlewick House Open Day with Area 13 on Saturday 7 June. Here we need to organise our arrival carefully to avoid the traffic, so those going please read carefully the arrangement which will be promulgated before the event. Sunday 22 June will be our third annual event to Helen and Phil’s Astons in the Orchard to enjoy a quintessential champagne picnic. Details will be sent to those attending.
July brings our flagship event of the year, the 90th. Anniversary of the founding of AMOC which will be held at Berkeley Castle on Thursday 10 July. It looks as if this will be the largest event ever organised by Area 22 and Ray will be seeking help on the day.
August brings the Summer Drive for Rory, our charity event, this year being organised by Rich Burgess. In September we have the Whitewell Getaway organised by David Harrold and after that the annual Area 22 Expedition which this year is to Belgium.
I would highlight one further event which is the Area 18 Summer Picnic at Ewenny Priory on Sunday 29 June to which Area 22 is invited. This event is hosted by our very own Sian and Jeremy Picton-Turbervill. Details are on the Area 18 web page where you can register for the event. In addition, of course, the calendar is full of other events from AMOC and AMHT, not to mention the exclusive Kitebrook Automotive Garden Party. There is also Le Mans, Goodwood, Simply Aston, British Grand Prix, the list is endless.
We have tried to encapsulate all this on the Calendar. I have for general interest attached a distribution map of Area 22 members created by Nicky which also shows the venues we use. Full Information on all meetings and events is available on the Area 22 website and in e-mails from Mike and Ray. The team hopes to see you at as many meetings and events as you can make.
